Life is full of lessons; lessons in school, lessons in love, lessons in parenting and so on.
But many of the most important lessons aren’t actually taught but rather learnt.
Some, the hard way.
Just the other day I was reminded again of how little we know in spite of all the knowledge available to us.
Here’s a list of just some things that nearly all of us learn sooner or later.
- How tough school can be
- How fast time flies
- How amazing love is
- How painful love can be
- How people deceive us
- How a child changes us
- How tough work can be
- How much fun traveling can be
- How tough life can be
- How much amazing food there is
- How different our cultures are
- How differently people view the same thing
- How powerful imagination is
- How much responsibility driving is
- How valuable friendship is
- How fragile life is
Parents and teachers often try and share with us both the good and bad of life to act as a guide but for some reason we don’t believe them.
We like to think we know better.
That we can do things by ourselves.
When I was in high school my parents would tell me to do this and do that…and I did basically everything I could NOT to do any of that stuff.
They told me to study more, read more, save money, consider my future.
And I did none of that.
As a kid, I had nothing but time and I wanted to enjoy every minute of it.
But as we grow up, we learn. (hopefully)
We mature. (at least most of us)
We change. (unfortunately not always for the better)
I learned many of the lessons of life the hard way and it cost me dearly in time, money and energy.
I ignored the advice of my parents and mentors.
But that was then, now I’ve learned.
I’ve learned to appreciate what each person’s expertise is and let them help me.
As a result I’m happier, more relaxed and, most importantly, more effective than I ever have been.
Find the right people in life to guide you and you’re well on your way to success.
It is my hope that this blog and my upcoming book, iSucceed, help you on you way through this thing called life.
